This song was practiced as an instrumental for a long time. And actually went through a few different drafts as far as lyrics and melodies go. This song is titled "Last Song" because of our lack of creativity when it comes to titling songs, it just happened to be the last song we recorded vocals on.
This song is about being self destructive and how sometimes you really just need to lean on your friends and loved ones for help. And hopefully you don't push them away on the ride.
*The bridge was actually taken from an old song in one of Jonathan's older bands called Circle The Wagons! The original song was called "SBHSN" which was an abbreviation for So Blissfully Happy So Naive. That section of lyrics was actually written by friend and Circle The Wagons! guitarist Halen Pittman. He's stoked to hear the words in this song.
lyrics
I sat and thought about it for a long long time
And sometimes I don't know how I keep these friends of mine
I'm surprised that I have any friends left at all
And hey sometimes it's hard to breath
And I guess that I should be happy
I think that I have lost count of just how many times
Again and again you guys have saved my life
I'm surprised that I have survived this long
And hey sometimes it's hard to breath
And I guess that I should be happy
*Then there comes the broken homes
The problems we get from being alone
Cause when we earn our adult eyes
There's no more room for childhood lies*
And hey sometimes it's hard to breath
And I guess that I should be happy
