This song is about the people in your life who refuse to build relationships with people that are strong enough to last through conflicts and troubles. In a way they only "build bridges" strong enough to collapse at the first sign of trouble. It's also about being reclusive and sometimes it feels like everyone wants to burn bridges and run, so comfort is sought from imaginary friends and self medication. A lot of this song is metaphor with hints and nods to works of fiction here and there.
lyrics
You've gotten good at burning bridges that you've built out of match sticks
And I don't think that you know how to let your guard down
Cause every day is the same and everyone is out to get you
But you've got friends and you know that so why don't try and understand
That the world isn't out to get you
And I've been spending all my time with some ghosts- friends of mine
They like to tell me it's okay and not to worry today
And we dance to the tune of some old forgotten songs
And you know if it isn't right then I would rather be wrong
Cause this life is too short not to dance
This life is too short so live it.
